Ras Ghmeis - Ghaghah Island Road

The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi has announced the completion of construction work on the Ras Ghmeis-Al Ghaghah Island road project. The project aims to develop roads network and infrastructure in the Western Region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in line with DoT’s Surface Transport Master Plan (STMP) and Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.    

The project includes the design and development of an offshore road and bridge from Ras Ghmeis area in the Western Region to Al Ghaghah Island, which is located in the Arabian Gulf to the extreme west of Abu Dhabi Emirate. The new road will cater mainly to the neighbouring areas and adjacent military naval base.  The bridge will feature a foot path for utilities and maintenance purposes. 

The original scope of work included the construction of a single carriagewayconsisting of two 3-m lanes and a 2-meter shoulder, as well as a 2.6 km causeway that includes a 520-m marine bridgeconsisting of 13 segments of 40-m each.  

Other works in this project included a preliminary work program, road geometry plan, armour hydraulics design and works, traffic design, marine design and HSE plans.

Construction works for the project were carried out by Ghantoot  Transport & General Contracting Est.  Logistics and project management was undertaken by DIWI Consult. The project commenced in July, 2010 and was completed in July, 2011.
