Department of Transport – Maritime Sector


Our role is to protect Abu Dhabi’s waterways and the people who use them; providing safer and environmentally sustainable seas.

 

Department of Transport – Maritime Sector is responsible for:


  • Implementing and proposing maritime legislation in cooperation with the competent entities in the State for the purpose of achieving the highest standards of safety, security, environmental sustainability and the economic development of this sector.
  • Managing waterways of Abu Dhabi.
  • Delivering an effective and integrated maritime transportation system to contribute to the economic growth and maintain quality of life in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
  • Supervising the compliance monitoring of concerned entities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi with regards to Abu Dhabi’s Environment, Health and Safety Management System (EHSMS) policy and guidelines.
  • Improving maritime safety for vessels and their operators through regulation and education.
  • Minimising vessel-sourced waste and protecting the marine environment.
  • Planning for and approving marinas infrastructure and related construction projects.
  • Developing and implementing the required vessel standards and operators’ competencies.

Abu Dhabi Weather Service Before you go out on your vessel or personal watercraft it is important that you are aware of the weather and meteorological conditions that you may face. Weather forecasts should always be obtained when planning your trip on the water, no matter how short, and updates should be obtained while you are out on the water.


The Department of Transport – Maritime Sector recommends that vessel operators use the maritime weather information from the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology at www.ncms.ae or you can contact the number below to obtain the current weather forecast.
